Questions

Kundli, answered

What do I need to make a kundli?
Your date, time and place of birth. The time matters most: the Lagna (ascendant) moves into a new sign about every two hours. A birth certificate or the hospital record usually has it. Without a time we still show the Moon chart, nakshatra, dasha and most doshas.
North or South Indian chart: which should I use?
They show the same chart. In the North Indian style the houses stay fixed and the Lagna is always the top diamond; in the South Indian style the signs stay fixed, with Pisces at the top left, and the Lagna box is marked (South Indian families call it the Rasi chart). Choose at the top of the form, or switch with one tap on the result; we remember your choice on this device, and the PDF follows it.
Which ayanamsa and settings do you use?
The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard of the Indian government's panchang; whole-sign houses, as in traditional Indian charts; the mean node for Rahu and Ketu; and Vimshottari dasha with years of 365.25 days. Other software may differ by a few minutes of arc or a few days in dasha dates.
What are name letters?
Each nakshatra has four padas (quarters), and each pada has a syllable. Many families choose a baby's name, or check a name, by the syllable of the Moon's pada at birth.
Do you keep my birth details?
No. The kundli is worked out on your own device, and the details stay in the page address after the # sign, which browsers do not send to any website. Save on this device keeps it in this browser only. See our privacy notes.
