Wedding Invitation Messages for WhatsApp: What to Write, in English and Hindi

The invitation is the beautiful part. The few lines you type above it are what your guests read first. Here are messages that work for family, friends, colleagues and elders, in English and Hindi, ready to send.

  • A good message greets the guest by name, gives the news and the date, links the invitation and asks for a reply
  • Send it to each person or family on their own, not to a group
  • For elders, follow the message with a phone call
  • Hindi messages follow the same order: greeting, news, invitation, request

The invitation carries the design. The message carries the warmth.

When a wedding invitation goes out on WhatsApp, it arrives between a cousin's forwarded joke and a work group's reminder. The card, or the invitation link, carries the design. The message carries the warmth, and it decides whether the invitation feels personal or like one more forward. A few well-chosen lines, addressed to the person by name, make all the difference, and they take less time to write than most couples think.

This guide gives you the shape of a good invitation message, then ready-to-send messages for every kind of guest, in English and in Hindi, plus save the dates, reminders and thank-you notes. Change the names, the dates and the city, and they are yours. Every example below uses one made-up couple, Kavya and Rohan, marrying in Jaipur on Saturday, 13 February 2027.

Quick answer: A good wedding invitation message for WhatsApp greets the guest by name, says whose wedding it is and when, points to the invitation, and asks for a reply by a date. Keep it to four or five short lines, send it to each person or family on their own rather than in a group, and follow it with one short reminder a few days before. For elders, use a formal greeting and ask for their blessings; for friends, keep it light. Hindi messages follow the same order: greeting, the news, the invitation, the request to come.

1. What a WhatsApp wedding invitation message should say

Every good invitation message, however short, does five things in order. It greets the person by name. It shares the news: whose wedding, and when. It says where, or tells them the details are in the invitation. It hands over the invitation itself, as a link or a card. And it asks for something small and specific, usually a reply by a certain date.

That is all. Everything else, the functions, the timings, the venue addresses, the dress colours, belongs in the invitation, not in the message. A message that tries to carry the whole programme turns into a wall of text that nobody reads to the end.

A few rules keep it clean. Use the guest's name, not "Dear all". Put the date where the eye lands first. Put the link last, on its own line, so the message reads as words first and the invitation second. And write the way you speak to that person: the message to your nani should not sound like the message to your college group.

WhatsApp lets you put a word in bold by wrapping it in asterisks, and in italics with underscores, which is a neat way to make the date stand out.1 Use it once, not on every line.

Plan it: if your invitation is a link rather than an image, WhatsApp shows a preview of it with your message. An online wedding invitation card on Shaadiwaale also lets each family reply on the invitation itself, so you never have to chase answers in the chat.

2. Messages for family

Family messages can be warm and a little familiar. Mention the people you hope to see, not only the person you are writing to.

  • Hi Meera Mausi! The date is finally fixed: Kavya and Rohan are getting married on Saturday, 13 February 2027, in Jaipur. Every function, from the haldi to the reception, is in the invitation below. We cannot do this without you and Mausaji, so please plan to come early.
  • Bhaiya, Bhabhi, the big news is official: our wedding is on 13 February in Jaipur. Here is the invitation with all the details. Please reply on it once you have booked your tickets, so we can plan your rooms.
  • Chachi, namaste! Rohan and I are getting married on 13 February 2027 in Jaipur, and the mehendi will not be the same without your songs. The invitation is below, with every function and its timing.
  • To the whole Sharma family: Kavya and Rohan's wedding is on 13 February in Jaipur, and we would love all of you there, the little ones included. The invitation below has every function. Please tell us on it who is coming.

What to remember: with family, name the people you are inviting, and if children are invited, say so plainly. It saves an awkward call later.

3. Messages for elders, in a formal tone

For grandparents, older relatives and family elders, the message is closer to the language of a printed card: respectful, complete, and asking for blessings rather than simply attendance.

  • Respected Dadaji and Dadiji, with your blessings, the wedding of your granddaughter Kavya with Rohan has been fixed for Saturday, 13 February 2027, in Jaipur. We humbly request you to grace the occasion and bless the couple. The invitation is below.
  • Respected Sharma ji, with great joy we invite you and your family to the wedding of our daughter Kavya with Rohan, son of Mr and Mrs Vikram Mehta, on 13 February 2027 in Jaipur. Your presence and blessings would mean a great deal to us.
  • Dear Uncle and Aunty, it would be an honour to have you at Kavya and Rohan's wedding on 13 February 2027 in Jaipur. The invitation with every function is below. We will call you as well.

If an elder is not comfortable opening links, send the message and then call. The call is the invitation; the link is the reference they can show someone else in the family.

What to remember: for elders, a phone call after the message is not optional. The message is the record; the call is the respect.

4. Messages for friends

Friends get the version of you that you actually are. Be playful, be specific about the functions they will love, and still ask them to reply.

  • It is happening! Kavya and Rohan, 13 February 2027, Jaipur. Sangeet on the 12th, so start practising now. Invitation below, reply on it so we know you are in.
  • Save your leave, cancel your plans, buy the outfit: we are getting married on 13 February in Jaipur. Everything is in the invitation below. You are not allowed to miss this.
  • The two of us are finally making it official, and you have to be there. 13 February, Jaipur. Open the invitation below, tick the functions you are coming to, and tell us if you need a room.
  • Remember when you said we would never get married? We are. 13 February 2027, Jaipur. Come and eat your words, along with the rest of the food. Invitation below.

There is a whole guide on marriage invitations for friends, with more messages and card wording for your closest people.

What to remember: even with friends, say which functions you are inviting them to. If the sangeet is the friends' night, say so.

5. Messages for colleagues

Colleagues need the facts and a clear, unpressured invitation. If you are inviting them only to the reception, or to every function, say so plainly.

  • Hi everyone, I am getting married on 13 February 2027 in Jaipur, and the reception is on 14 February in Delhi. It would be lovely to see you there. The invitation has the venue and timing.
  • Dear Priya, I would be very happy if you could join us at our wedding reception on 14 February 2027 in Delhi. The invitation below has all the details, and you can reply on it directly.
  • Hello team, a small personal note: Rohan and I are getting married in February. We are hosting a reception in Delhi on 14 February, and you are all warmly invited. Invitation below.

Send colleagues their invitation individually where you can, even if you also mention it in the team group. A personal message tells them the invitation is real.

What to remember: keep work invitations short, and never make anyone feel they have to explain why they cannot come.

6. Wedding invitation messages in Hindi

Hindi messages follow the same order: a greeting, the news, the invitation, and a request to come and bless the couple. Formal Hindi uses "आप" and phrases like "सादर आमंत्रित", which you also see on printed cards.

For elders, formal:

For family:

For friends:

For colleagues:

On Shaadiwaale, the invitation itself can be in Hindi too, from the blessing at the top to the reply form, so the message and the invitation speak the same language.

What to remember: if the invitation is in Hindi, write the message in Hindi; if your guest reads English more easily, a Hindi greeting with an English message works well.

7. Save the date messages

A save the date goes out before the full invitation, when the dates and city are fixed but the details are not. It is short by design.

  • Save the date! Kavya and Rohan are getting married on 13 February 2027 in Jaipur. The full invitation will follow. Please keep the dates free.
  • Big news before the big day: 12 and 13 February 2027, Jaipur. Save the dates; the invitation with every function comes soon.

On Shaadiwaale you can send a save the date first and switch the same link to the full invitation later, so guests never have two links to keep track of.

What to remember: send save the dates to guests who need to travel or book leave. Local guests can wait for the invitation.

8. Reminder messages before each function

One reminder a few days before the wedding, and a short note on the day of each function, is enough. Any more and it starts to feel like a newsletter.

  • A small reminder: the mehendi is this Friday at 3 pm at the poolside deck. Directions are in the invitation. See you there!
  • Just three days to go! The haldi is on Friday at 10 am. Wear yellow, and please do not wear anything you love.
  • Today is the day! Baraat leaves at 6:30 pm sharp. The location pin is in the invitation. Come hungry and ready to dance.

If some guests have not replied, a gentle line works: "We are finalising the numbers for the caterer this week. Could you reply on the invitation when you get a moment?" It asks without accusing.

What to remember: remind people about the functions they were invited to, not the whole wedding.

9. Thank-you messages after the wedding

A thank-you note within a week or two of the wedding is the last message of the season, and the one people remember.

  • Thank you for being with us on the most important day of our lives. Your blessings, your dancing and your patience at the buffet queue meant the world to us. With love, Kavya and Rohan.
  • Dear Sharma Uncle and Aunty, thank you for coming all the way to Jaipur to bless us. It would not have been the same without you.
  • To everyone who could not come but sent their love: we felt it. Thank you.

What to remember: if someone gave a gift, mention it by name in a separate, personal message.

10. How to send it so it feels personal

The difference between an invitation and a forward is almost entirely in how it is sent. Send each family its own message rather than adding everyone to a group; nobody likes a wedding group that pings two hundred times a day. Use their name in the first line. Put the link on its own line at the end. And send from your own number, or from a parent's for their side of the family, so the message comes from someone they know.

If you use an invitation that has a personal link for each family, send each family its own link: it greets them by name and shows only the functions they are invited to. That way the colleagues invited only to the reception never see the haldi.

Finally, keep track of who you have sent it to. A guest list with a "sent" mark beside each family saves you from the two most common mistakes: forgetting a family entirely, and sending one family the invitation three times. Shaadiwaale's guest list keeps that record for you, along with each family's reply.

Plan it: make your online wedding invitation, then send it family by family from your own WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

What should I write when sending a wedding invitation on WhatsApp?

Greet the person by name, say whose wedding it is and the date, add the city or the venue, attach the invitation, and ask them to reply by a date. Four or five short lines are enough; the invitation carries the rest.

Is it okay to invite people to a wedding on WhatsApp?

For most guests, yes. For elders and close family, follow the message with a phone call, which is the respectful way to invite them personally.

How do I write a formal wedding invitation message?

Use a respectful greeting ("Respected" or "Dear"), the names of the families, the couple's names, the date and the city, and a line asking for their presence and blessings. Keep the tone close to a printed card, and avoid jokes and emojis.

What is a good wedding invitation message in Hindi?

Change the names, the relation and the date to yours.

Should I send the invitation in a WhatsApp group?

It is better to send it to each person or family on their own. A personal message feels like an invitation; a group message feels like an announcement, and a wedding group quickly fills with replies nobody wants to read.

When should I send a WhatsApp wedding invitation?

Send it once your dates and venues are final, early enough for guests who travel to book tickets and leave. Send a save the date before that if you need guests to keep the dates free, and one reminder a few days before the wedding.
