Ask a bride's mother what the wedding jewellery will cost and she will usually answer in grams, not rupees. That is the right instinct. A gold set's price is mostly the price of its gold, and the gold changes price every morning, so a figure in rupees is out of date by the time the jeweller has written it on the back of a visiting card.
It also explains why the jewellery is one of the largest lines in an Indian wedding. In CAIT's estimate of spending for the 2025 wedding season, jewellery was 15 percent of everything Indian families spent on weddings, more than the 10 percent on clothes and saris.1
This guide puts rupees on every kind of wedding jewellery set: gold by the gram and by the piece, diamond and polki, kundan, fashion jewellery, silver and rented sets. Every gold price below is worked out from one day's rate, with the arithmetic shown, so you can redo it with the rate on the morning you shop.
Quick answer: On 28 October 2026, 22 carat gold cost ₹13,195 a gram in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata, and ₹13,210 in Delhi.2 At that rate, with an example making charge of 15 percent and GST of 3 percent on the whole bill,3 a 20 gram necklace set costs about ₹3.1 lakh, a 50 gram set about ₹7.8 lakh, and a complete bridal set of 150 to 350 grams about ₹23 lakh to ₹55 lakh. Fashion kundan and zircon necklaces cost ₹9,600 and ₹13,800 at one large brand on 29 October 2026,4 smaller shops start lower, and rented pieces start at a few hundred rupees. Gold jewellery sold in the districts where hallmarking is compulsory must carry a six-digit HUID.5 This is information, not financial advice, and gold prices change every day.

1. Wedding jewellery set prices at a glance
| Type of set | What it is | What sets the price | What it costs (October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 carat gold | 91.6 percent gold, hallmarked 22K916 | Weight, the day's rate, making charges | About ₹1.6 lakh for 10 grams to ₹55 lakh for 350 grams (example, section 3) |
| 18 carat gold with diamonds | 75 percent gold, harder, so it holds stones | Diamond carats and quality, then the gold | A natural 1 carat diamond about ₹2.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh; a lab-grown one about ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 |
| Polki | Uncut natural diamonds set in gold | The diamonds, the gold, the craft | Costlier than kundan of the same design |
| Kundan | Glass stones set in gold foil | The gold and the craft | Less than polki, because the stones are glass |
| Fashion kundan or zircon | Gold-tone metal with glass or zircon | Brand and finish | ₹9,600 and ₹13,800 for two necklaces at one large brand |
| Silver | 92.5 sterling silver, often with stones | Silver weight and craft | ₹46,980 for one temple necklace at the same brand |
| Rented | A set hired for the function | Its value and the days | From a few hundred rupees; neckpieces from ₹12,000 for three days at one Mumbai shop |
Where the figures come from: the gold rows are worked out in section 3 from the rate on 28 October 2026; the hallmark codes and the purity of 22 and 18 carat are from BlueStone's bridal buying guide;6 the diamond prices are Varniya's indicative ranges of July 2026;7 polki and kundan are as Tanishq describes them;8 the fashion and silver prices were on Kushal's bridal sets page on 29 October 2026;4 and the rental prices are from an undated LBB round-up of Mumbai rental shops.9
What you can take from it: decide the type of set before you decide the budget; in the examples here the same ₹5 lakh is about 32 grams of 22 carat gold, one or two natural 1 carat diamonds, or a whole trousseau of fashion jewellery. If the jewellery is part of a larger plan, put it in your wedding budget as its own line.
2. How the price of a gold set is worked out
A jeweller's bill for a gold set has four parts, and every jeweller uses some version of the same sum:
- The gold: the net weight of gold in grams, times the day's rate for its purity (22 carat for most traditional sets, 18 carat for most diamond sets).
- Making charges: the jeweller's charge for the craft, either a percentage of the gold value or a fixed amount per gram. For machine-made jewellery such as plain chains they often run from 3 to 25 percent, and intricate bridal pieces can go above 25 percent.10 Some jewellers also add a wastage charge for gold lost in the making.
- Stones: diamonds, polki, emeralds or pearls, priced separately from the gold.
- GST: 3 percent as of October 2026, charged on the whole value of jewellery bought from a jeweller, making charges included, whether or not they are shown on the bill as a separate line3.11
A worked example (an example, not a quote): a 45 gram 22 carat necklace and earrings set, bought at the 28 October 2026 rate of ₹13,195 a gram, with an 18 percent making charge.
| Line | Working | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | 45 grams x ₹13,195 | ₹5,93,775 |
| Making charges | 18 percent of ₹5,93,775 | ₹1,06,880 |
| Value before tax | Gold plus making | ₹7,00,655 |
| GST | 3 percent of ₹7,00,655 | ₹21,020 |
| Total (example) | Value plus GST | ₹7,21,675 |
Change one number and the total moves a long way. The same set at a 10 percent making charge would cost about ₹6.7 lakh; at 25 percent, about ₹7.6 lakh (both examples). That is why the making charge is the part of the bill worth asking about first.
What you can take from it: ask every jeweller for the same four lines, the net gold weight, the making charge, the stones and the GST, so that two quotes can be compared; the jewellers listed on Shaadiwaale are a place to start.
3. Gold wedding jewellery sets with price, by weight
This is the price list most families are actually looking for: what a 22 carat set of a given weight costs. Every figure is worked out the same way, at ₹13,195 a gram (the 28 October 2026 rate in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata2), with an example making charge of 15 percent and 3 percent GST. They are examples: your jeweller's making charge, the day's rate and any stones will change them.
| Weight of the set | Gold | Making charge (15 percent, example) | GST (3 percent) | Total (example) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 grams | ₹1,31,950 | ₹19,793 | ₹4,552 | ₹1,56,295 (about ₹1.6 lakh) |
| 20 grams | ₹2,63,900 | ₹39,585 | ₹9,105 | ₹3,12,590 (about ₹3.1 lakh) |
| 30 grams | ₹3,95,850 | ₹59,378 | ₹13,657 | ₹4,68,885 (about ₹4.7 lakh) |
| 40 grams | ₹5,27,800 | ₹79,170 | ₹18,209 | ₹6,25,179 (about ₹6.3 lakh) |
| 50 grams | ₹6,59,750 | ₹98,963 | ₹22,761 | ₹7,81,474 (about ₹7.8 lakh) |
| 75 grams | ₹9,89,625 | ₹1,48,444 | ₹34,142 | ₹11,72,211 (about ₹11.7 lakh) |
| 100 grams | ₹13,19,500 | ₹1,97,925 | ₹45,523 | ₹15,62,948 (about ₹15.6 lakh) |
| 150 grams | ₹19,79,250 | ₹2,96,888 | ₹68,284 | ₹23,44,422 (about ₹23.4 lakh) |
| 200 grams | ₹26,39,000 | ₹3,95,850 | ₹91,046 | ₹31,25,896 (about ₹31.3 lakh) |
| 250 grams | ₹32,98,750 | ₹4,94,813 | ₹1,13,807 | ₹39,07,370 (about ₹39.1 lakh) |
| 350 grams | ₹46,18,250 | ₹6,92,738 | ₹1,59,330 | ₹54,70,318 (about ₹54.7 lakh) |
A quick way to redo the table on the day you shop: at a 15 percent making charge and 3 percent GST, each gram of 22 carat costs the day's rate times 1.1845 (1.15 times 1.03). At ₹13,195 that is about ₹15,629 a gram, all in, as an example.
What you can take from it: at the typical weights in section 4, a choker and earrings alone come to 48 to 110 grams and a complete set to 150 to 350 grams or more, so the lighter rows are for a single necklace for the engagement or the reception, and the full trousseau sits at the foot of the table. If family members are giving gold, our wedding gifts guide explains stridhan, the bride's own property in law.
4. A full bridal set, piece by piece
A complete bridal set is several pieces, and the gold in each adds up quickly. BlueStone's bridal guide gives these typical gold weights for a classic bridal set, and puts a complete set at 150 grams to 350 grams or more.6 The gold value is an example at the 28 October 2026 rate for 22 carat, ₹13,195 a gram, before making charges and GST.
| Piece | Typical gold weight | Gold value at ₹13,195 a gram |
|---|---|---|
| Choker or collar necklace | 30 to 70 grams | ₹4 lakh to ₹9.2 lakh |
| Long haar or rani haar | 50 to 120 grams | ₹6.6 lakh to ₹15.8 lakh |
| Bridal earrings, a pair | 18 to 40 grams | ₹2.4 lakh to ₹5.3 lakh |
| Kadas or bangles, a pair | 30 to 80 grams | ₹4 lakh to ₹10.6 lakh |
| Maang tikka and nath together | 10 to 25 grams | ₹1.3 lakh to ₹3.3 lakh |
| Rings and haathphool together | 15 to 35 grams | ₹2 lakh to ₹4.6 lakh |
| The complete set | 150 to 350 grams or more | ₹19.8 lakh to ₹46.2 lakh |
The long haar alone is often 35 to 45 percent of the gold in the set, the same guide says, so it is the first piece to rethink if the total is too high.6
The pieces change with the tradition. South Indian brides often wear broad kadas with temple or floral work and a vaddanam at the waist, and temple jewellery, with Lakshmi, Ganesha and peacock motifs, began in the South. North Indian brides often pair gold kadas with a red chooda. Kundan and polki draw on the Mughal and Rajput courts, the Rajasthani borla frames the bride's face, and filigree, tarakashi, belongs to Odisha and West Bengal.6 A pandit or an elder in the family will know which pieces the rituals need, and which are simply expected.
What you can take from it: list the pieces the rituals need, then the pieces the photos need; they are rarely the same list, and the second one is where families save. If the set is being matched to the lehenga, bridal wear designers can tell you which neckline the outfit was cut for.
5. Diamond, polki and kundan sets
Diamond sets are usually made in 18 carat gold, which is 75 percent gold and harder than 22 carat, so the fine claws that hold small diamonds do not loosen.6 On 28 October 2026, 18 carat gold cost ₹10,796 a gram in the same cities.2 In a diamond set the stones, not the gold, decide the price. Varniya's indicative ranges of July 2026 put a natural 1 carat diamond at about ₹2.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh and a certified lab-grown loose stone at about ₹35,000 to ₹55,000; at 2 carats, about ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh natural and ₹85,000 to ₹1.3 lakh lab-grown.7 A diamond necklace set may carry many small stones rather than one large one, and the total carat weight is the number to ask for.
Polki is jewellery of uncut, natural diamonds set directly in gold; kundan uses glass stones set in layers of gold foil. Polki is the costlier of the two because of the value of the diamonds, while kundan offers grandeur without the diamond price tag.8 A polki set is priced on its diamonds, its gold and its craft, so two sets of the same weight can be far apart in price; ask for the diamond weight in carats as well as the gold weight.
What you can take from it: if a diamond or polki set is a once-in-a-lifetime purchase, ask for a certificate for the stones and the hallmark for the gold, and keep both with the bill.
6. Fashion, silver and rented sets
Not every set at a wedding needs to be gold. A bride can wear real gold for the pheras and something lighter for the mehndi, the sangeet and the reception.
Fashion jewellery, gold-tone metal with kundan, glass or zircon stones, looks like the real thing in photographs and costs a fraction of it. On 29 October 2026, Kushal's bridal sets page listed a kundan necklace at ₹9,600 and a zircon necklace at ₹13,800,4 and smaller shops sell for less: a 2019 WeddingWire India round-up of artificial jewellery shops gave starting prices from ₹500 to ₹5,000.12
Silver sets, usually 92.5 sterling silver, sometimes plated in gold, sit between the two. The same page listed a temple necklace in 92.5 silver with zircons at ₹46,980.4 Silver hallmarking is voluntary as of October 2026, though every hallmarked silver piece must now carry its own HUID.13
Rented sets suit a function you will dress for once. An undated LBB round-up of Mumbai rental shops listed prices from ₹200 onward at one shop and, at another, ₹12,000 onward for neckpieces for three days.9 Ask what the deposit is, what happens if a stone falls out, and when the set must go back.
What you can take from it: a gold set for the wedding, and fashion or rented sets for the other functions, is one way to keep the jewellery budget in proportion; the money saved can go to the honeymoon instead, and a Shagun Registry lets guests promise the gifts the couple really want.
7. What your budget buys
At the 28 October 2026 rate, with an example making charge of 15 percent and 3 percent GST, each gram of 22 carat gold costs about ₹15,629 all in. That gives a rough idea of what a budget buys in gold, as an example, with the pieces at the typical weights in section 4:
| Budget | What it buys in 22 carat gold (example) | Or |
|---|---|---|
| ₹1 lakh | About 6 grams: a pair of light earrings or a pendant | A fashion jewellery set for every function, or several rentals |
| ₹3 lakh | About 19 grams: a light necklace set | A small diamond set in 18 carat |
| ₹5 lakh | About 32 grams: a light choker | A gold set for the pheras and fashion sets for the rest |
| ₹10 lakh | About 64 grams: a choker and earrings | A polki or diamond set for the main day |
| ₹20 lakh | About 128 grams: most of a light complete bridal set | A lighter gold set with polki for the reception |
| ₹50 lakh | About 320 grams: a full traditional trousseau |
What you can take from it: fix the number first and let the grams follow; what a wedding really costs in 2026 shows where the jewellery sits against everything else.
8. How to buy a wedding set well
- Check the hallmark. Since 1 April 2023, gold jewellery in the districts where hallmarking is compulsory may be sold only with a six-digit alphanumeric HUID in its hallmark.5 The hallmark has three marks, the BIS logo, the purity and the HUID, and the BIS CARE app's "verify HUID" shows the jeweller, the purity and the type of piece.14
- Pay the gold rate only for gold. Ask for the bill to show the net weight of gold separately from the weight and value of the stones, so you are not paying the gold rate for glass, wax or lac.
- Ask how the making charge is worked out, as a percentage or per gram, and ask for it before you choose the piece; it is the part of the bill most open to discussion.
- Ask about wastage. Some jewellers add it on top of the making charge;10 know whether yours does.
- Get the exchange and buyback terms in writing, including what is deducted when you exchange the piece or sell it back, and whether the making charge is lost.
- Pay by bank transfer or card for anything large. Section 186 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 bars anyone, a jeweller included, from receiving ₹2 lakh or more in cash for one transaction.15
- Keep the bill, the hallmark details and any stone certificate together, for insurance, for the family's records and for the day the set is passed on.
- Consider lighter work. Electroformed pieces use less gold for the same look; BlueStone says the technique cuts weight by 30 to 40 percent.6
What you can take from it: two or three quotes for the same design, each with the four lines from section 2, will tell you more than any price list; if you would like help reading them, our team is free to ask.
Buy the set you will wear again
The bridal set is worn for a few hours and kept for a lifetime, which is why it is worth buying slowly: the piece that suits the lehenga and the photographs is not always the piece that will be worn at a cousin's wedding ten years from now. Buy the gold you will wear again, rent or borrow the drama for one evening, and keep every bill.
If the jewellery is one line in a larger plan, Shaadiwaale's planning tools keep the budget, the checklist and the guest list in one place.
Frequently asked questions
What is the price of a bridal gold jewellery set?
It depends on the weight. At the 28 October 2026 rate of ₹13,195 a gram for 22 carat gold, with an example making charge of 15 percent and 3 percent GST, a 20 gram necklace set costs about ₹3.1 lakh, a 50 gram set about ₹7.8 lakh and a complete bridal set of 150 to 350 grams about ₹23 lakh to ₹55 lakh. Gold prices change every day, so redo the sum with the day's rate.
How many grams of gold is a bridal set?
BlueStone's bridal guide puts a complete classic bridal set at 150 grams to 350 grams or more: a choker of 30 to 70 grams, a long haar of 50 to 120 grams, earrings of 18 to 40 grams, kadas of 30 to 80 grams, and smaller pieces such as the maang tikka, nath, rings and haathphool. At those weights a choker and earrings alone come to 48 to 110 grams.
What is the price of a 50 gram gold necklace set?
At ₹13,195 a gram for 22 carat gold (28 October 2026), the gold in a 50 gram set is worth ₹6,59,750. With an example making charge of 15 percent and 3 percent GST, the total is about ₹7.8 lakh. A different making charge, the day's rate or any stones will change it.
How are making charges calculated on gold jewellery?
As a percentage of the gold value or as a fixed amount per gram. For machine-made jewellery they often run from 3 to 25 percent, and intricate bridal jewellery can go above 25 percent. Some jewellers add a wastage charge too. GST of 3 percent is then charged on the whole bill, making charges included.
Which is costlier, kundan or polki?
Polki, because it uses uncut natural diamonds set in gold, while kundan uses glass stones set in gold foil, as Tanishq explains. A polki set is priced on its diamonds, its gold and its craft, so ask for the diamond weight in carats as well as the gold weight.
Is 18 carat gold good for wedding jewellery?
For diamond and stone-set jewellery, yes: 18 carat is 75 percent gold and harder than 22 carat, so it holds small stones securely. Traditional all-gold sets, temple jewellery and heavy antique pieces are usually made in 22 carat.
How much does an artificial bridal jewellery set cost?
Far less than gold. On 29 October 2026, one large brand, Kushal's, listed a kundan necklace at ₹9,600 and a zircon necklace at ₹13,800, and a 2019 WeddingWire India round-up of smaller artificial jewellery shops gave starting prices of ₹500 to ₹5,000.
Can I rent bridal jewellery?
Yes. Rental shops hire out jewellery for a function, from a few hundred rupees for simple pieces; one Mumbai shop in an undated LBB round-up charged ₹12,000 onward for neckpieces for three days. Ask about the deposit, damage and the return date before you book.
